Unreal tournament 2004 server details

I decided to do it: I want to support Unreal Tournament 2004 being viable in 2026 after the OldUnreal re-release, so I’m hosting low-ping servers for US players!
To get the game/community patches: https://oldunreal.com/ ← grab from there.
This installer does not seem to grab the map packs, so make sure you grab the Community Map Packs Vol. 1-4 from somewhere like here before trying to join! Downloading through game servers is always a bad time.

CURRENTLY OFFLINE** Server 1:**

  • Game Mode: CTF
  • Server IP: ut2004://ut.instagib.gg:7777

Server 2:

  • Game Mode: ONS
  • Server IP: ut2004://ut2.instagib.gg:7777

Server 3:

  • Game Mode: DM
  • Server IP: ut2004://ut3.instagib.gg:7777

Server 4/backup:

  • Game Mode: Instagib/General
  • Server IP: ut2004://ut.pixeldragyn.com:7777

Simply go to the server browser, right-click, “Open IP” then paste that in. You can Add to Favorites from the in-game menu once you’ve joined.

Frag out and enjoy.

I love it. Don’t know if I will play, because of time restraints and lack of reflexes (I mostly play turn-based tactics these days).

But back in the day you wouldn’t have a good time with software rendering. IIRC UT2004 required at least a Geforce4 MX to hit 30-40+ FPS.

UPDATE! We now have a good stack of servers going.
If there’s interest long-term, I’d like to fire up some in other regions, but we’ll go with this for now.

Hello! Thanks for doing this. Where did you source all the maps on these servers? I downloaded the maps from moddb that you linked to, but when I tried to join the CTF server I still had to download a map. I quit before it finished because the DL rate was really slow. I tried yesterday.

Side note: the download is really slow because of limitations in the official UT2k4 server software, but apparently it wouldn’t take so long if the files were served from a separate web server. Seems like you could install Apache (or nginx) on another web server and point to it with a setting in the UT2k4 ini file. That post is old but I don’t see why that would be any different nowadays. Do you need help with hosting? I’m willing to help and figure it out.

Apologies, the missing maps are from the Community Bonus Packs:

I actually do have the maps set up to download from a separate web server, I’m not sure why the CTF one isn’t delivering properly. I’ll look into it.

UPDATE: Looks like I just forgot to add the CBP files to the web server. Apologies. Fixed.

I feel dumb for just now getting around to seeing this but thank you! Installed, patched, and got the map packs too, so I’ll be happy to give this a try later today. :heart_eyes:

Hey hi, I guess I got here late, from the new UT2004 video, and the first three servers I’m unable to connect. Do your group plays on designated days or anything? I’ve been hankering for more arena shootin!

UPDATE: It looks like just the first server is down. Will investigate when I have time, but the others appear to still be up. ^^
