Which Console Would you Pick?

If you could only choose one console to collect for, what would it be?

I think that for versatility I’d have to choose the Wii U? It can play Wii U, Wii, and GameCube when modded. Would anything else stack up?

My nostalgia answer would be the N64. I’ve told my wife that when they put me in the old person home with dementia, bring the N64 + Super Mario 64, and leave me be.

In terms of something rivaling the Wii U for compatibility, I’d say a PS2 compatible PS3. You get PS1, PS2, and PS3 games in one box. It was the reason I went out of my way to get the MGS4 bundle in 2008 (it was the last model to have official PS2 support). Hardware support is less of a problem if you go the CFW route since modders figured out how to use Sony’s PS2 Classics emulator with any game.

PS2. Huge library I will never finish.

Would have to say the GBA SP. Great pocket friendly handheld and an amazing library of GBA, GBC and GB games that range from short session games to longer, more involved experiences. Throw in a flashcart and I would be able to enjoy Game Gear as well.

At the risk of being a basic bitch I think I gotta go with the PS4. It’s been 13 years and we’re still getting dope games on it, such a huge library of amazing games from this gen but also a ton of remakes/remasters!

PS4 is a solid pick!!

If I was building a collection that I would actually play on it would be the Xbox 360. This is by far my favourite console ever and I can’t ever imagine it being topped for me.

Would an Xbox One X be a crazy pick? I feel like I remember Xbox working on backwards compatibility pretty extensively that generation and seeing LinusTechTips talk about its emulation capabilities. That, and it seems to be a pretty reasonable price for a 4k Bluray player.

Personally, I would go for Gamecube, I just have a lot of nostalgia for the system. Couple it with a GBA player and I would be set.

If I could chose a fat PS3, I would be very content with the PS1, PS2, and PS3 library. If I had to chose only one platform I think I would go for the PS2 because it was my first console and the nostalgia alone would make it worth it.

Fat ps3. That way I can have the library of ps1, 2 and 3. Plenty of banger gamers.

As other people have put, fat PS3, if limiting to just one console library PS2 for sure, I think it was the perfect blend of nostalgia, while looking great and having a great range of genres….. and of course the absolutely massive library.

I would have to go with the Wii. It’s such a time machine for me and it takes me back every time I boot it up. With it’s charm, pretty decent library and unique motion controls and controller it offers a lot of fun. Also a great console for the whole family or for chill game nights.

you dont get the entire list of backwards compatibility with the Xbox One X imo. cant run most stuff without a dev account last i heard.

My personal pick would be the PS4. if you are willing to mod it and want a physical copy library. But i dont fault the ones saying PS3 either. its a powerhouse for a reason.

I just love the GBA SP form factor so much… maybe a little too much?

Assuming we’re counting modded systems, I’d probably go with a PS Vita. I like having the portability and outside of its own games library there’s a bunch of emulation support through homebrew. OLED display is a big plus for me too.

God that’s a tough question. I feel like so many platforms have excellent libraries with plenty of games still at reasonable prices.

At least here in the UK, most of the game prices for systems like the OG Xbox and Wii U are pretty decent and make for good collectors systems. Although PS2, PS3 and Xbox 360 are mostly good, but you’re seeing some of the rarer games hitting high values now.

I have a curated collection for a number of systems, but if I were to start afresh now and wanted the best value I’d probably say either Wii U or OG Xbox. Wii U has a big plus as it can play Wii games so that opens up a whole new can of worms

I had a PS2 back in the day, and besides the nostalgia, it has a HUGE library of great games, AND the library of the PS1 too!
But for practicality, I think I could do well with an XBox One and use retrocompatibility and emulation to play other things. Right now, the only console I got is a chinese retro handheld which has basically all the old games until the N64. I love that thing so much I sold my Switch Lite.
