Instagram as a platform is miserable.
Yet, as an artist I can’t find anything close to it when it comes to inspiration/references for design/animation/mixed media stuff.
I’ve used some tools similar to what pinterest used to be like Discover / Cosmos - but I so rarely find the exact niche/style stuff anywhere like I do on Instagram. And most of the Pinterest-likes are too easy to flood your feed with the same thing and not “stuff LIKE that”.
Instagram and Meta are abhorrent companies and I know the reason WHY it’s so good is because of the deeply unacceptable spying they do to accomplish it - but what alternatives should I use? These people don’t post anywhere else.
There just isn’t a decent sized community on any other apps. Bsky is really the only social media app I feel has gained any traction. There are apps like Flashes & Skylight to give front ends that mimic IG & Tiktok but it’s just pulling posts from the Bsky network. At least it’s something people are already posting to?
For better or worse, Meta won’t let me create an Instagram account. I don’t want to link it to Facebook. Every time I’ve tried to create an account, Instagram immediately locks it and wants my cell number to prove I’m not a bot. No thanks.
For my wife, Instagram is just TikTok. She’ll sit on the couch and scroll through videos for hours.
A better search and recommendation were at the top of my wishlist for AI in the before times. Is there anything that picks suggestions regardless of the host website? Maybe Google images, but Facebook platforms are inconsistent with what gets indexed by search.
Maybe go over suggestions from the audience during a stream? With precaution towards all the links ofc.
I’ve seen creators sort-of “graduate" from tiktok and insta to yt shorts and longer videos, but the yt account struggles because the audience already saw all the posts on the old platform, they won’t watch again, so it doesn’t get recommended.
