Hey Epos, thanks for the video! I’ve watched BBK’s recent video and found it relatable already, so this one also hits the spot.
My recent gaming experiences are not bad, but I feel like I’ve been living more on autopilot the last couple of weeks and I’ve been wanting to bring back the intentionality in my life by thinking a bit more about what I do with my free time. Gaming has been fun, but more like an automation then something I intentionally choose for.
Therefore I think this video feels super relatable and gives some great tips about how I can enjoy games a bit more instead of just booting the low friction session games (which are not bad, but the urge to play some more immersive games is growing). I’m not really burned out by gaming, but I feel like it’s time for something more engaging and mindful then just 100%’ing a LEGO game f.e. (or any other more “mindless” game I’ve been playing).
Another big factor for me is nostalgia. Recently I’ve been thinking a lot about how gaming was a couple of years ago when I was still in school and how much better it was. Truth is that it was not necessarily better, but that it’s just those nostalgic feelings that make me think it was. Hence these feelings set the bar too high for my recent gaming sessions sometimes.
Reducing the choice and applying the feelings test are the ones that would work best for me, since I’ve installed a lot of games recently and I’ve been playing chunks of some of them but haven’t really felt immersed in one, which is pretty normal considering how much games I sometimes play in a span of a couple of hours. Making some notes about what I expect and what I got out of it also is something I think could work for me, but I have not really applied this deeply. Also, since spring is in full bloom I’ve been busy and more inclined to do some other stuff like going for long walks or social activities with friends. Having this busier life makes gaming a lot more fulfilling and refreshing imo, and also helps remove the small drain-out (as BBK calls it) I get from gaming.
So what I’ve been trying and what I want to try is to fined the perfect balance between these states of gaming and really try to feel what I want to play or do with my free time. Not to min-max, not to try and have the best experience ever from every gaming session but to just have fun and unwind after work, sports or any other activity.
Anyways, enough of my yapping. I just wanted to thank you for this video (and all your other ones basically)! They always feel refreshing and very motivating and are a good reminder that mindfulness is something very important.
Thanks for the wonderful message!
I feel like installing a ton of games is the “kid in a candy store” effect; it feels like limitless possibilities. But I think there’s a pitfall wherein we already kinda know all the “possibilities” there are, since we’ve experienced most kinds of games before - so then it’s much harder to keep that excitement when literally everything is in front of us, rather than just building up excitement for one thing.
Aw dude heck yeah! I watched this video this morning and meant to ask what the physical media plans were but I just saw the Patreon email about the Podzine! That’s such a sick idea, grabbing one asap!
One of many ideas! Been sitting on ideas forever, summer is the season I finally get them all listed!
Well thats exciting news to keep an eye out for this summer! Just grabbed two copies for myself. I have a couple libraries in the area, I’ll ask if they accept zine donations - if so I’ll order a couple more!
Thank you!!! ![]()
Gotta get to printing more already ![]()
