Recording Retro Gameplay

For any folks that record their gameplay of retro games what is your setup? I have a Mister which can go as high as 1440p but curious if something like the RetroTink4k is worth it. I only use the Mister and no actual consoles. For YouTube is the quality difference even noticable?

I tend to like the shaders/masks on the Mister but for recording gameplay I’ve been turning it off.

I personally have the older Retro Tink 5x Pro and I love that little thing. It pairs while with my Ps2 and ps3 with retrovisionHD component cables for 720p to 1080p output post-firmware update. I’ve been tempted to upgrade for the RetroTink4k, but I wouldn’t have much of use for it outside of the vga (old xp computer), a separate composite input (VHS), and an hdmi input.

From what I do know about the RetroTink4k, it will largely depend on your output as that upscaler only supports up to 1080p60, and wont display anything for 1440p or 4k inputs, so you have ask if feeding a 1080 signal to achieve 4k or any of its other features is worth a 500-750 USD price point depending on what version you get. If it’s noticeable to the eye? I’d imagine its hard to tell especially post-youtube compression.

Personally from my understanding the retrotink4k might overkill if you’re already outputting 1440p and have card that is capable of capturing it without issue. Anyone is free to correct me however, since I capture all my footage at 1080p and my experience with 4k is limited to cameras.

I did come across this video that might helpful to you that talks about the differences between RetroTINK 4K PRO and The 4k CE if you’re interested:

I see no point in the RetroTINK if you’re doing MiSTer at 1440p. You can cleanly scale to 4K in post/during capture if 4K is a must for the video.
