MERCH DROP: Dual Comm PodZine #1

Hi all!

We just recorded Dual Comm #24 today so stay tuned for that on BBK’s channel probably next week!

As a continuation of… [gestures at everything] the stuff we talk about in this show and getting back to the real world and physical media, I (Epos) have been working on getting more of my work out into the real, physical world. If people are finally tuning out of social media and rejecting AI and algorithms, I want to reach them in the real world.

Dual Comm PodZine 1 - The Feelings Test – glitch.mov

And why not start with a nice collection of existing work?

The Dual Comm PodZine #1 is the full first season of the Dual Comm Podcast, in zine form! A handful of pages breaking down “The Feelings Test”, a few hobbies we’ve re-examined through that lens, some tips on backlog management, and all 17 episodes of the first season of DC in nostalgic, AM Radio/early '00s podcast sound on MP3 CD (for play on computers or compatible stereos)!

These will be shipped via stamped envelope, USA only right now!

All hand made, no AI.

I will also be printing extras of these to distribute to Little Libraries and such in my area - if you have a bunch of those around your area, please LMK and I might ship you some to distribute as well!

Yeah, I wish international shipping wasn’t in the state it is. I tried generating a shipping label to a random address in France and it’s gunna be $24 for shipping alone - which just seems really not worth it

Maybe if I can find a distributor based in Europe.

Copying an update from Patreon, also here’s a video of the MP3 CD playing in my car with full metadata!

HOLY COW!

Thank you all so much for the amazing response to the PodZine #1! I’m having to print a lot more than expected, which is AWESOME.

I know some of you live outside the US and want a copy - unfortunately even to send something this light seems to cost >$20 (with a test shipment profile to France as an example) to Europe, so I’m not sure how to make it work just yet without a distributor. But I’ll keep poking at it when I have time!

I’ve packed up >half of the orders, still a few more to get through. I’ve also picked up a second printer to help with the workload.

I wanted to mention that I’ve been super inspired by the response to this so I’m finally working through MORE of the physical media ideas I’ve had. I made two 8-page one-sheet mini-zines - one about tiny games and one about old, revived games. The first 10 people who already ordered the PodZine had these included with your orders! The rest will not, but I’ve been including extra goodies in every envelope regardless.

I have these set up with free shipping on the Shop, though I absolutely suggest waiting until you plan to order something else and just throwing it in there  Do keep in mind I have lots of other goodies up on there, including pins and buttons and stickers.

Here’s the updated Zines collection link: https://glitch.mov/collections/zines (I promise I’ll finish filling out all the other product text fields ASAP. I’m always late to getting this updated.)

SPEAKING OF STICKERS… It was requested that I make the “Save Yourself” sticker available - I’m wrapping up test prints of those now, will have them on the shop in time, as well! The person who requested it will have some coming their way in a separate envelope, too.

Zine orders caught up again! Still haven’t had any capacity to print the extras for distribution, but if you’ve ordered before this moment, it’s shipped!

Alright uhhhh I think I’m upgrading the paper quality for the mini zines!

The gloss looks super nice on these! Not sure exactly what brand/style/weight of brochure paper you’re using, but cost wise you are hitting a bit of a double wammy with it as not only are you paying more for the glossy sheen coat on it, but (presumably) the paper weight is likely significantly higher (read: thicker, sturdier, harder to fold) then the standard printer. While the weight and texture of the brochure may align better with “traditional” magazines, you’re also doing this at home, so save yourself a few bucks on paper weight. If possible, I would see if you can find some < 60lb glossy paper to cut costs down per zine, but still keep that nice sheen going.

Edit: Whoops, deleted the post on mistake. Edits were to restore the post and provide the quote.

Actually since this is just brochure paper, it’s much lighter than photo paper and even the cardstock I was using for the zine covers (at least by feel). I ordered some extra and it should be fine to use for most zines.

I will still work through my old backlog of various papers for different zines just to use up supplies - but I’ll try to keep paid orders to the nicer paper at least hehe

Mine arrived! Very much enjoyed the flip through, as well as the additional goodies in the back & within the envelope. Looking forward to seeing how this evolves over time!

Mine also arrived yesterday! It looks incredible, I can’t wait to see more! All the additional goodies were awesome too. I’m a dork and bought a second copy to display on my shelf, it looks sick next to everything else on display!

I’m so glad to hear this! I’m really really stoked on the next big physical thing I’m working on.

I just got mine in 2 days ago. I really enjoy having something physical from this podcast it’s so cool to have next to my gaming consoles as a reminder to have fun with my hobby. (sorry the xbox is kinda hard to see thought, I wanted to take the photo with my old Sony Mavica camera)
