Channel 3: Champions of Norrath (Part 1)

Channel 3 returns! This time we’re starting up some Champions of Norrath on the ol’ PlayStation 2. I think I’m going to make a small series of this before publishing, keep expanding on my thoughts etc.

Enjoy the crazy camera angles and relaxing gameplay!

What a fun video dude, also I am absolutely green with envy over that beautiful CRT.
related to CoN, have you ever played Baldurs Gate Dark Alliance 2? very similar game with some memorable quests/areas.

I haven’t played 2 yet, but I love the first one a ton! Same studio/engine!

That engine is black magic for what it was able to do on the PS2 as well, water and fire effects look great.

And it’s crazy that it’s just an upgraded version they used in LotR: War in the North!!!

Not watched the whole video yet, so I hope this topic not discussed into detail in the video:
Epos talks a lot (in the Dual Comm + Party Chat podcasts) about liking diablo/diablolike games, but which one is the best introduction to the genre? I never played a Diablo (like) game before but it seems like a genre I could enjoy. I was thinking about Diablo itself, but Diablo 2 seems a bit too hardcore while Diablo 4 is riddled with bs live service stuff…

HMMMMMM THAT IS A VERY GOOD QUESTION.

Might seem like odd answers, but I’d say if you want it to be “Real Diablo” to get a taste, go for 3!

For the -lights:

  • Darksider Genesis
  • maybe the SACRED games, they just got a (meh) remaster
  • Baldur’s Gate Dark Alliance 1&2 (originally on PS2, then Xbox, but now recently ported to PC on Steam!)
  • The Lord of the Rings: War in the North (no longer available on Steam, would have to pirate or deal with the PS3/Xbox 360 version) (same engine as BGDA/CoN, but much upgraded!)
  • Marvel Heroes Omega (playable again thanks to * community servers)
  • IF willing to go retro:
    • Champions of Norrath on PS2 (same engine as BGDA)
    • The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King on Gameboy Advance

Wishlisted Darksiders: Genesis and the Dark Alliance games. They all seem to be verified on Steam Deck so that’s a big plus for me.

I’ll have to keep an eye out for Warin the North. Goes for about £20 on PS3 here.
